I had decided to repair some of the siding, on the garage, by the newly installed waterfall. The bottom few inches of much of it was water damaged and had rotted away. We think it was installed with the bottom too close to the exposed aggregate patio and it soaked up and retained water.
At the same time I was wondering what to do with the siding for the cottage. I had not decided whether to use shakes or vertical siding like the house. For the past while Ian has been working on the ground and rocks around the wall outside the office - the wall facing Calmore Cove. The bottom portion of some of this wall had been at or under ground and had rotted away on the bottom few inches.
I realized the siding on the office wall was longer than the siding on the garage and the siding on the garage was longer than much of that required for the cottage.
It was a "no brainer" moment - remove the siding from the office wall, and install new siding. Take the used siding from the office wall, cut off the rotten part and use the remainder to reside the garage. Remove the rotted siding from the garage, cut off the rotted part and used the remaining for siding on the cottage. Dan started this process today.
